Annalise Nelson: Paintings in Correspondence
Summer 2023
Annalise is a visual artist born and raised in Atlanta, Ga.
She received her BFA from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and is currently part of South River Arts Studio collective in Atlanta.
She constantly bumps into and is inspired by the big and storied concepts of Time, Emotion, Language and Memory. These concepts are abstract relationships we are born into, and through dances of color, emotive forms and active lines seeking to find solid ground, her work aims to serve as a descriptive container for visualizing these messy and continuous ideas.
Her current paintings look to preserve and question language and memory through writing; how much meaning can be portrayed through a word? How do some moments of language hold something bigger than what is being said? Communicating feels so much more than just putting words to paper or using language to speak, and these questions pull her paintings toward abstract storytelling.
